3 Simple Practices for Cultivating a Positive Mental Attitude

This post will teach you different ways to hold a mental positive attitude. I share how I stay positive.

A positive mental attitude is a powerful tool that can transform our outlook on life and improve our overall well-being. By adopting a few simple practices, we can foster a more positive mindset and navigate the challenges of daily life with resilience and optimism. This blog post will explore three effective strategies to cultivate a positive mental attitude. Why is this important? Because daily practices implemented over time become your habits, and more than anything thinking positive thoughts requires that you condition your brain to speak to yourself positively. Knowing that we have 7000 thoughts per day and 80% of them are negative, I wouldn't leave my thoughts to chance; I would be working on shifting them constantly. Most people are unaware of this mind-boggling statistic; however, for those that are, it's a non-negotiable that programming your mind to positivity is a must.

Here are some of my favorites that I practice often.

  1. Reframe Negative Thoughts: Our thoughts greatly influence our emotions and actions. Negative self-talk and pessimistic thinking patterns can weigh us down and hinder our ability to maintain a positive attitude. It's essential to become aware of our negative thoughts and challenge them. When you think negatively, ask yourself: "Is this thought serving me well?" If the answer is no, consciously reframe it into a more positive or realistic perspective. For example, instead of dwelling on a mistake, focus on the lessons learned and the opportunity for growth. With practice, you can train your mind to default to positive and constructive thinking, creating a positive mental attitude overall. In Incurable Positivity, I share specific ways to reframe by releasing, reaching, and remaining. One of the questions I ask myself often is, "What insights have I gained from this situation?" This prompts me to write insights into lessons learned, creating wisdom. When you have wisdom, you can make informed decisions in your future. This actually turns those negative thoughts into information that I am grateful for. Try it!
  2. Engage in Self-Care: Maintaining a positive attitude is crucial for mental and emotional well-being. Engaging in self-care activities that bring you joy, relaxation, and rejuvenation is vital. Identify activities that recharge your energy, such as exercising, practicing mindfulness or meditation, pursuing hobbies, spending time in nature, or connecting with supportive friends. Make self-care a priority in your daily routine and establish healthy boundaries to protect your mental space. By nurturing yourself, you enhance your resilience and develop a positive mindset to cope with stress and challenges better. Write a list, sit down, and ask yourself what brings me JOY, then put it where you can see it. Then when you are not feeling great, do something on your list! I have it on the wall in my home office. It includes watching my favorite movie, calling three people I enjoy chatting with, and more. Do you know how many people don't have an answer when asked what they enjoy doing or what their passion is? Don't let that be you. Think about shifting yourself from negative to positive...and do it often. These are my favorite MEDITATIONS. 👇🏻DONWLOAD Your Free 10-minute meditation

  3. Practice Gratitude: Gratitude is a fundamental practice that can shift our focus from what's lacking in our lives to what we already have. Take a few moments each day to reflect on what you are grateful for. It can be as simple as appreciating a beautiful sunset, the support of loved ones, or even the most minor accomplishments. Maintaining a gratitude journal can be a helpful habit to reinforce this practice. By acknowledging and expressing gratitude, we rewire our brains to notice and savor the positive aspects of our lives, leading to a more optimistic perspective. When I journal gratitude, I write this at the top of the page "Thank you for" This is more powerful for me than writing I am grateful for... I think it is because thank you is a word we use often, and understand it evokes in me a feeling of appreciation that is more heartfelt. Thank you, MONEY, for coming into my life and supporting my dreams...versus...I am grateful for having enough money. I like the affirmative of THANK YOU; try it and see how it makes you feel.

Cultivating a positive mental attitude is an ongoing practice that requires self-awareness and intentional effort. Embracing a positive mental attitude benefits your well-being and influences how you interact with others and navigate the world. By incorporating gratitude, reframing negative thoughts, and engaging in self-care, you can gradually shift your perspective and build a more optimistic outlook on life. Start implementing these practices today, and watch your mindset transform, allowing you to embrace life's challenges with resilience and positivity.

And above all, get around positive people; it's so hard to find positive people; even this morning, I was at the bank, and the teller said, "How are you? I said great, " and we chatted. She asked me what I was up to. I said I've been traveling and training leaders. She first said, "OH, that must be so exhausting"...MY RESPONSE was...It's the most exhilarating job; it's so much fun. I am so lucky. She looked surprised.

I want you to start noticing where this shows up in your life and how'd you respond. How you navigate and respond matters; choosing not to engage in negative talks requires committing and becoming aware of when it presents moments for you to shift the conversation to positive energy.

The Positive Book Club is an excellent place to shift from negative to positive and become more self-aware. I will host a live call twice a month with my members and teach from my newest BOOK, INCURABLE POSITIVITY.

And for now, STAY in your magic; you got this. Your thoughts can shift in a moment; remember that!
